John Winston Lennon (October 9, 1940 – December 8, 1980) was a British musician, singer, songwriter, and member of the legendary band The Beatles, as well as a peace and civil rights activist.
He was born in Liverpool, England. In the 1960s, he gained worldwide fame as a member of The Beatles, a group that transformed modern music and culture. After the band’s breakup, he pursued a solo career, releasing albums and singles including the iconic Imagine and Give Peace a Chance. Lennon was an outspoken advocate for peace, particularly against the Vietnam War.
On December 8, 1980, he was shot outside his residence in New York City, USA. He is buried at Woodlawn Cemetery, New York, USA.
