He was born in Salzburg, Austria, into a musical family. A child prodigy, he performed before European royalty at an early age. He died on December 5, 1791, in Vienna, Austria. The exact location of his grave is unknown; he is traditionally believed to have been buried in a common grave at St. Marx Cemetery, Vienna.
