Napoleon Bonaparte (August 15, 1769 – May 5, 1821) was a French military and political leader, Emperor of France from 1804 to 1814, and one of the greatest strategists and reformers in European history.
He was born in Ajaccio, Corsica, recently annexed by France. Educated in French military schools, Napoleon conducted numerous campaigns across Europe, implemented the Napoleonic Code, and reformed France’s administration and economy.
After his defeat at Waterloo in 1815, he was exiled to Saint Helena in the Atlantic Ocean, where he died on May 5, 1821. His remains were later transferred to Les Invalides, Paris, France.
